Well my color theory series officially ended last Sunday with my photo of opening day at Fenway Park. It was a great experience to week by week have to look at the world for a particular color. I really had to start getting creative at the end when we had our 40 days of rain. This experiment has really opened my eyes to seeing the every day in Boston and I hope that it has done the same for all of you. Color is definitely an influence in our every day live, sure we see in color, but people actually, actively influence our choices in life with color. I see it everyday working in the architecture industry, we are always picking colors and materials to influence how someone that is going to inhabit our building is going to react. Marketing and ad agencies, do it in everything from the biggest budget Hollywood movie to the packaging that your gum comes in.

Again I hope your eyes are open, to not only how the outside world is influencing us, both naturally and man made, but I also hope that these exercises that you joined me on, help you capture this world of ours in a more unique and interesting way. Below is a slide show of all my photos from color theory. I will end by paraphrasing one of the great photographers of our time and a huge influence on me personally, Jay Maisel who always shows one particular slide in his lectures and simply asks this question, “How many of you see the word Fedex and how many of you see the arrow”

I saved the best for last, the ultimate in green. Its technically Monday, but that is just typical Red Sox vs Yankees baseball. And what do you know the Sox pull it off in dramatic fashion. It was an all star evening, flyover giant American flag, Steven Tyler sings God Bless America, Neil Diamond sings Sweet Caroline live, Paps comes out to the Dopkicks couldn’t get any better.

Thank you so much for watching the blog every day for color theory it really has been fun and I look forward to starting other mini projects like shapes. Tomorrow I hope to put up the animoto video of the International Pillow Fight Day that took place on Cambridge Common on Saturday and later in the week I will put up a traditional flash gallery of all those same images.

Without further adieu I give you the ultimate green, and my church for this Easter Sunday, FENWAY PARK!!!

Necessity. These days lots of people do not have the luxury of just buying what they want when they go grocery shopping. Why does a half gallon of orange juice cost almost four dollars anyways?! I mean I think I had 11 basic items and it was almost $50. So I thought today’s green photo symbolized what lots of people are going through right now. Anyone remember the episode of Married With Children where it was so hot Al took the family for a vacation to the supermarket? While there they one a shopping spree after pushing Marcy out of the way and all built the cart of death for the contest, HA, that was a funny one, this photo makes me think of this, I think they had some in cart camera shots in the episode.

Well tomorrow is the last day of color theory on the blog. It’s going to be a really late post, but its going to be a good one. Monday I will post a slideshow of all the past weeks photos as a look back sort of thing.

Day 3 is here, so is my camera’s rain gear, and what do you know, the sun started to come out. To day I give you A Dinosaur Artery. This is part of the old central artery elevated highway that went through Boston. Erected as a sculpture along Surface Road as a reminder to everyone what poor “Urban Renewal” can do to a city, decades of work and Billions of federal money were spent to finally take it down and put a tunnel under the city, reconnecting the city to the waterfront and the North End to the rest of Boston. The ugly green monster was replaced, by rolling open green parks. Even those have come under fire, as the poor economy has scrapped nearly every building that was planned on the “Rose Kennedy Greenway”. While its nice that we have some more greenery in the city, its empty pretty much all the time, and all of the so called “experts” in traditional red tape government fashion, can’t agree on how to better utilize the space. Don’t even get me started on how our infamous mayor is rumored to be holding a grudge on a developer or two and not letting them build their originally planned ideas.

Hey whadda know another day of pouring rain outside. At least I am staying dry by having a good set of rain gear and boots. Some people thought I was nuts when I started wearing rain gear instead of using an umbrella, but now they are starting to change their tunes as I can splash around in puddles with no problems at all! Another tough day of photo taking, camera was double wrapped in ziplocks, because the idiots at UPS sent my new Think Tank camera rain gear to RI instead of Boston, not much out at all in the way of color on this walk, but I did find one cool element glistening in the rain. In the U.S. green means GO, and coffee gets you going in the morning so it’s fitting that Starbucks on Winter Street is in a building with a green facade, even the main color in the Starbucks logo is green. So grab a hot cup of coffee, enjoy my photos and stay tuned to tomorrow, to what will most likely be another rain filled photo. (my ark is almost complete)

Well its another Monday, that means another day of torrential rains. Today was an almost impossible start to the final week of color theory. We end with Green, my favorite color. And with the absolutely miserable weather top-side we head under ground and I present to you The Green Line, you never know if its going to be on time, the hint of snow or rain and all of a sudden there are signal problems with the system and the trains are late. Love it or hate it, that’s what makes it the Green Line and we all deal with it. And as an ode to my good friend Brian, I do it in HDR hand held 3 exposures.

Well we come to the end of another week of examining color in photographs and its influence on the the photo itself and how you perceive/feel about it. We end what was for me a struggling week on brown with the ultimate in the color brown, chocolate brown! Now don’t go putting your hand through your monitor trying to get one, because well you can’t have one!

On a side note next week will be the last week of Color Theory on the blog, at least for a while, and it is set to end with a bang I promise you that. But fear not, I have many other things planned, including a look at shapes in photography scheduled, I just have to plan out how I want to go about posting it. But while you wait for more, like shapes I will still be conitinuing with the From the Vault series, as well as showcasing some of my latest photos that have been put up on flickr but have not made the blog yet, and even doing a few more in-depth pieces.

Without further adieu I give you death by chocolate!

Watch out or you’ll have a thorn in your side! Another shot from the Victory Gardens. Many people who have plots in here have trained rose’s to grow along the fences that mark their area’s. It provides a lot of color in the summer months, it also helps guard against people coming into their respected plots and stealing things. The aisle’s of the gardens are narrow, so be on the lookout as you walk or you will be stabbed a thorn.
