Well this is it. Tomorrow is the end of the world so in theory it should be my last post. If you see anything posted on Monday one of two things has happened. One, the zealots were wrong once again and their views on religion are a crock, or two, something happened I am still posting because I am not one of the chosen ones and you are reading this blog because you have been just as bad of a person as I apparently have. But guess what, if we are still here then all the nut jobs have left and we are gonna have one hell of a time!

Bunch of things happening this weekend. The Earthfest concert is happening tomorrow, a fitting way to close out life on Earth! More importantly the Bruins are playing game 5! I am still trying to figure out how to work in both. Might have to just DVR the game and head to the concert if it is nice out (supposed to rain for like the 20th day in a row). I am hoping to write up my review of the new F-Stop Guru bag this weekend and post that up on Monday. That’s it for now enjoy the end of days!

Well here in Boston we haven’t seen the sun in longer then I can remember and it has seemed to have been raining non stop. Oh yeah and its mid May and only about 50 degrees. But who’s complaining SO today instead of a new photo (kinda sorta forgot to export one from Lightroom) I reached way back in the vault to 2008 to find a shot I have always liked of sunset on the Charles River. This is my favorite spot on the Charles and the dock on the right side is where you can find me most times at the end of a day in the summer relaxing and watching sunsets. Hopefully soon we will be seeing sun again! That’s all for today, stay classy Boston.

Just a quickie from the vault for today. I just plain forgot to export the photos that I edited from my Saturday shoot with John Tammaro through Boston’s South End to Southie walk, more to come on that Wednesday. Here we have daybreak over the Atlantic Ocean from the beach on Plum Island, just past that jetty and Newburyport Harbor is the Atlantic. Every time I think to myself, hmm, maybe it would be nice to move to the mountains I seem to find myself either look at or out taking sunrise photos on the ocean and I am reminded at why I love living on the ocean so much. There is just something so peaceful about sitting on the beach in the pre-dawn hours waiting for the sun to pop up and just listening to the waves crash in. Sometimes you actually have to remind yourself to get back up and snap a picture.

Also on Friday I received two new camera packs from my friends at F-Stop Gear and will be putting them through their paces this week and will post a review soon so stay tuned.

WOW! A nice sunny warm day in Boston, who would have guessed this would ever happen with all the fog, clouds and rain we have been having. To celebrate (read: I’m lazy and haven’t processed any new photos) we hit the vault today for a shot taken last summer on the beach at sunrise on Plum Island. After a mediocre sunrise because of clouds way off on the horizon we had some great morning light and the only people that were out were the fishermen. It also goes to show, turn around and see what is behind you when you are taking photos, as you can see from the shadow the sun was in the other direction. That’s it for today just a quickie. Hopefully some new cool photos next week.

Well on Friday we celebrated Earth Day, a day of awareness for the planet and in about a month is the annual Earthfest concert here in Boston, a fun day at the Hatch Shell where people hang out and listen to a free concert all day and there of course tons of environmentally conscience vendors hawking their stuff and giving info out on saving the planet. So with those two events and the weather finally starting to get a little warmer here in Boston I thought why not post a shot of sunnier times here in the city.

That’s really it for today, not much in terms of an informational post, but it is getting warmer so all you people that thought it was too cold outside this winter to get out there and take pictures get off your butts and go take some photos already, you arent going to get any better with your camera sitting on a shelf. Oh and try something new, it doest mean you can just go back to another season of taking pictures of flowers!

On a unrelated note, I completely redid my portfolio website this weekend. It has the same basic look, I updated my logo with one of my alternates, but more importantly I dumped my hard to update html site that I built a few years ago and went with the same back end that I use for my blog where. Now both are running utilizing wordpress and the prophoto blog! It is about 90% complete there are just some layout tweaks and then trying to find the best eCommerce solution to sell some limited edition prints online. So go check it out and let me know what you think by clicking on the Portfolio link in the menu bar.

Ah there is nothing like a good block party in the summer. This was taken at the main stage at last summers Berklee Jazz Festival as Nona Hendrix was on stage performing. This was my first time shooting this event and I have to say it will become a regular on my list. It was a blast and Nona killed it as always. With all the cold and rainy weather we have been having, not to mention the fact that I have my first cold of the winter, I thought it would be nice to post a photo of some warmer happier times. mmm…All that BBQ and soul food that was being served, tasty! One piece of advise that I will shed on you with todays photo to make the post actually a little bit longer and actually worth you spending the time and reading…While you may be at an event doing a ‘job’, don’t forget it is okay to also have fun at the same time. You are part of the environment as a whole, if you are having a good time and others see that, then who knows, maybe you will be able to make a picture that you otherwise wouldn’t have been able to if people saw you as a grumpy photog just there going through the motions.

Going back in the time machine again this morning. I popped open my Flickr to see a group post from my buddy Rich getting his Prime Lens Sunday photowalk organized and it got me thinking back to this image that I shot on a walk with him one spring Sunday morning, just over a year ago in the South End. It is of the old power plant. I am sure that it will be revitalized into something cool as most old structures in the South End have, but at the time this photo was taken it was nothing more then a parking lot inside of it. I’m sure I will post something here about Prime Lens Sunday as the date gets closer we are still about a month away. If you missed my blog post from Friday, go back and read it.

It’s been a while since I have done a ‘From the Vault’ post. I’ve been letting it rest for a while to build up a new catalog of past work and I have just been shooting too much new stuff that I have wanted to share that there has been no need. But today is a holiday in the states and I haven’t really finished work on any new images in the last few days, I have been treating the long weekend as a complete relax, unwind and do nothing weekend, I have a feeling it will be the last one for quite a while.

Yes I know that the title above is contradictory in architectural styles, but when I see the buildings on the Christian Science campus here in Boston that is what I think. It in my eyes is both brutalist and modernist in style. Designed by the great I.M. Pei this is a close up of the facade of the administration building. I had the honor a few years ago at my office of giving one of I.M. Pei’s son’s a brief demo on how my office uses the benefits of 3D to create complex building designs. But back to the photo, the whole plaza is a great place to practice your architectural photography. Loads of angles, curves and complex vanishing points to keep the apetite at bay.

That’s it for today…

Well the sun is setting on another year. Its Christmas Eve today a time when most people start reflecting on what they have done throughout the year. Photographers start to take inventory of their successes and failures, what they want to do in the coming year. While I am not going to use today’s post to get all reflecty I just thought I would plant the thought in everyones head. But hey, there is still one week left in the year, lets go out with a bang and take some killer shots to end the year!!!
