Showcase: Fisherman’s Feast

Welcome to the Fisherman’s Feast celebration in Boston’s North End.  Celebrating its 100th anniversary in the North End this feast is over 500 years old back in its origin of Sciacca, Italy.  A feast to honor the fisherman with Madonna Del Soccorso (Our Lady of Hope), these traditions were brought here to America by the Italian immigrants over a century ago.  Rich Beaubien and I spent the entire day documenting the event, that’s noon till 10pm for those keeping track,  we marched and photographed the procession from start to finish through all the streets of the neighborhood.  We capped the night off photographing the Flight of the Angel, which a neighborhood girl is dressed as an angel, flown over the crowded streets to the statue of the Madonna, and give a prayer in Italian.  Here is a selection of my favorite photos from the hundreds that were captured throughout the day and night, I have a few more that I have to add to the gallery later tonight that I missed this morning when creating the slide show.

Connie Catinella - Wonderful rememberance of 100th anniversary

Therese Diecidue - I saw you following us all day – and towards the end when we were coming down Hanover St – went to look for you for your card you had blended into the crowd again…..

All I can say is that your pictures are AMAZING!!! You captured the day perfectly! Having been involved with my husband for 20years – I don’t think that anyone has stopped time with pictures as you have!

After I look at your slideshow more – I will be in contact to shop – as your pictures will be shared for generations……… Grazie molto!! Hope our paths cross again!

Marshall - This is a really energetic set of pictures. The one that leads off is probably my favorite picture of yours I’ve seen, actually. It’s much more than just random confetti.
