Well as most of the world knows. This morning Adobe CS5 was released to the masses. I pre-ordered yesturday and chose the download option because A) Who really needs disks anymore and B) as many of you know I dont have much in the way of patience!
There are tons of new features that I plan on exploring and sharing with you over the next several weeks, but one of the first things I did was to redo one of my favorite HDR images that I have taken, the fisheye shot of the Harbor Hotel on Rowes Wharf. Wow was I impressed, it is really gonna give photomatix pro a run for its money. One of the main reasons that I was so eager to try it out was the “Remove Ghosts” options. With this checked the software will do what its says and in this case it is the moving clouds in the upper left. Photomatix Pro never really dealt with moving objects very well and it was frustrating. But right off the bat the new HDR Pro in Photoshop CS5 is fantastic. I will say that upon clicking the check box I wasnt impressed, but you have the option of choosing which of the exposures in your bracket set you want the software to work with to remove ghosts and I ran through the five and I was surprised to find that my -2.00 EV exposure worked best. I had assumed that the exposure that most closely related to the over all exposure of the HDR was going to be best but not the case.
After processing I brought it into Lightroom3 Beta 2, because when playing with hour old software, why not finish it in unreleased beta software!!! Below is the Photomatix Pro version of the image. That is it for now, I will go into more about the processing and settings after I have some more time to play around.
Click on the thumbnails at the bottom to see them at full res and pay particular attention to clouds in the top left of the frame.
